In Conewago Township, a vehicle hit a home Tuesday evening.

Conewago Township police chief Gary Baumgardner reported that the car’s accelerator stuck when a neighbor tried to back it out of a garage.

Baumgardner stated that “it just took off with him.”

He said that the incident near McSherrystown at Washington Street and Linden Avenue did not result in any injuries.

Baumgardner stated that the damage was mostly to the outside, which included steps leading up to an apartment on a second floor.

According to an update on Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services’ (SAVES), Facebook, firefighters “helped a mother with her three young children to leave their house and reach safety.”

Baumgardner stated that the family temporarily relocated and stayed in a hotel.

Baumgardner reported that emergency medical services from the Community Life Team, township police officers and SAVES were also on scene.

According to the Adams County Department of Emergency Services, the call for assistance was made at 9:17 pm and completed by 10:49 pm.
