The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings in multiple counties across Middle Tennessee on Saturday. A number of touchdowns were unconfirmed.

According to NWS, damage was also reported in Hendersonville, Gallatin and Springfield.

Hendersonville was directly hit by the hurricane. Authorities are still assessing damage.

Gallatin Police confirmed that multiple homes were damaged, according to NWS Meteorologist Sam Shamburger.

Shamburger also stated that the NWS is powered by an emergency generator.

Clarksville mayor Joe Pitts has confirmed that the first responders “assess damage” following the tornado which struck northern areas of the city early in the morning.

The city of Springfield also suffered heavy damages, according to officials.

In a post on social media around 6:20 p.m., Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell urged Nashville residents to “be extremely careful right now in Nashville, especially in the areas where tornadoes passed by” because of potential power lines that may have fallen. Three people were confirmed dead by the Nashville Emergency Operations Center on Saturday, following possible damage caused by a tornado at a home located in Nesbitt Lane.

Emergency resources have gathered at the Emergency Operations Center for what officials described as a “partial activated” in order to coordinate and assess resources needed, said spokesperson Joseph Pleasant.

In a post on social media, District 3 Council Member Jennifer Gamble noted that there were power outages and heavy damages in Whites Creek as well as Bellshire and Madison.

Sumner County

Gallatin’s Highway 31E was dark and without power at many intersections. The lights were out at the Walmart Shopping Center and Volunteer State Community College.

Sumner County Emergency Management Agency posted on Facebook around 6:20 pm that “There has been significant storm damage in the county.” “Many emergency crews are out responding to emergencies, including gas leaks, collapsed structures, and vehicle accidents.”

NHC Sumner Place in Gallatin is a rehab and assisted living center that escaped damage, though it lost power, forcing the facility to use generators. As the storm moved through and approached, residents were ushered into bathrooms or other places of safety.

Grace Thompson, a Certified Nursing Assistant said: “It was a bit loud at first.”

As of 7:00 pm, Main Street in Hendersonville was pitch-black with rows of destroyed businesses and power lines down. As workers removed power lines, traffic remained blocked for many miles.

Gallatin Police Department confirmed that the towns of Hendersonville, Gallatin and Gallatin had “severe damage” due to the earlier tornado. Sumner County Emergency Medical Services also stated they were “not aware at this time of any fatalities or injuries of life-threatening nature.”

The statement stated that “at this time we are working on responding to multiple calls in the county as well as establishing Red Cross shelters at Gallatin and Hendersonville.” It is vital that people stay off the road and let first responders, utility crews and other emergency services respond. Please continue to pray for Sumner County residents as well as our neighboring counties that are also affected. “We are doing everything we can at this moment and working together to start the reconstruction process.”

Montgomery County

The Montgomery County Mayor’s Office reports that three people died as a direct result of the tornado on Saturday afternoon.

Michelle Newell, the Public Information Officer for the City, confirmed that at this point, three people have died, including two adults and a child, as a direct result of the tornado which touched down on this afternoon. The hospital has also treated 23 other people. “We are still searching for survivors and we will update you as soon as confirmation is received.”

According to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement and emergency service responded in the area near Garrettsburg Road of Hand Estates.

In a Facebook post, Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden stated that “the best course of action is to stay away from the roads so emergency services can evaluate damage.”

He told me that there were a number of powerlines down.

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said: “This day is one that nobody expected or wanted, but it is also a great day for our community.”

Pitts said that people should stay at home or off the road to allow first responders to be able to answer emergency calls.

He added, “We are aware of the extensive damages in all communities.” We need to help those families who are so desperate for assistance.

Northeast High School located at 3701 Trenton Road is set up to be a Red Cross shelter for those who have been displaced and are in need of help.

Springfield, Robertson County

Many reports have been made of powerlines downed, houses demolished, and heavy police presence in the region.

The Valvoline Instant oil change station at Memorial Boulevard and Blackpatch Road, which is in an area with many downed electrical lines, sustained severe damage.

Natasha Tice, the city’s spokesperson, said that no fatalities had been reported, but minor injuries were reported in Springfield.

At this point, the city has not confirmed any reports of damage and given no estimate for when power will be restored.
