A report found that cars were literally lifted off their parking spots, concrete from one home was hurled 35m into a building and caravans destroyed by a storm in Jersey.
Tornado and storm research organisation (TORRO), confirmed a tornado of “significant” size during Storm Ciaran. The tornado traveled 8km (5miles) through St Clement and then exited around Fliquet.
As more roads are reopened after clearing them of fallen trees, the storm clean-up continues.
TORRO, during its external research, assessed the key damages caused in Jersey using Beaufort’s wind scale – which runs from T4-T6.
The roofs of a row of cottages were ripped off in Fliquet and debris was flying into the buildings.
A home on the St Clement Beachfront had its roof removed and its interior walls left exposed. Warehouses at La Rue Des Pres Trading Estate also suffered significant damage.
Metal sheets from certain warehouses were found at various locations as far away as 1.4km (0.88-miles).
After the storm, a whole house was discovered collapsed in Grouville. Concrete lumps had flown 35m into another home’s roof – landing one in the bedroom.
The car was 25m away (80ft), with no sign of dragging across the ground.
After being lifted off a parking spot, another car was discovered partially downhill in St Catherine’s Woods.
The wooden beams, weighing 100kg (15.7 stone), were carried across 150m (492ft), from the table tennis field to the backyard of the home.
Other caravans, including campervans or motorhomes parked at Beuvelande were also destroyed.
Report said that there were “a number of indicators to show a powerful tornado crossed Jersey.”
This tornado was given a T6 preliminary rating.
