The tornadoes that swept through Homewood, Vestavia, and Mountain Brook on Saturday left behind significant damages. Scott Dawson Evangelistic Association, one of many organizations that are still recovering from the storm.
SDEA’s office has been located in the building only for two weeks. They are temporarily relocated while they repair the damage caused by the tornado.
Hunter Dawson, SDEA vice president says: “You do not wake up expecting to learn that a storm has hit your area or that you have been affected by damage to your home or building.”
SDEA has to deal with broken windows, water damage, and interior ceiling tiles that have fallen. Parts of the building’s exterior structure are also being torn apart.
Dawson says that the second floor is the only floor where there was not much damage. The roof and fifth floors were the most damaged. The visual damages were obvious, but the structural damage appears to be minimal.
SDEA has not yet received an insurance estimate on the cost of the damages, but based solely on the appearances it is expecting a high price.
The first step is to ensure that the building is secure. The second step is to ask, “Okay, now what?” As we complete the process of making the building safe to enter, we will be better able to assess the next step,” Dawson explained.
SDEA claims this is its first property, having leased spaces in the past 36 years. It also said that it will be hosting two major events in the coming months, but is not going to let the office damage interfere with its work.
The Lord will have us where He wants to us, our primary goal, as we found out and what the Lord has for us, is to spread the gospel. Dawson explained that they would continue to work outside the brick and mortar building because their mission was not contained within it. We’re grateful for this opportunity, but our organisation doesn’t revolve entirely around the building. Thankfully, the building will come and go, but we trust that whatever we face, whether it’s refurb or other costs, we can continue to share our mission.
SDEA hopes that the building will be cleared next week and people can return to their offices in safety.
