After heavy rains Sunday, homeowners in the Chicagoland area have been cleaning out flooded basements.

Shardaa Grey spoke to a neighbor who was frustrated in Jefferson Park for CBS 2.

Elizabeth Bylenga is frustrated and feeling helpless because her basement has been flooded by sewage.

You’re in a panic. “You don’t have a clue what to do. There’s nothing that you can do. “.

Bylenga feels helpless after seeing her basement flood. She was not washing any laundry when her dryer went off.

She said, “An alarm sounded and I then smelled smoke.” I jumped into the water, and then tried to pull myself up.

It is not the first time that her basement has been flooded. First time in May 2020.

We were woken up by a sewer backup. As we were asleep, we did not see the same damage as we do now. It’s not the same. “I kind of think it’s even worse.”

Bylenga and her neighbors were filmed by a viewer of CBS 2 walking through the flooded basements.

She said, “The basement still has flooding.”

Illinois State Police report that I-55 in both directions was closed near Pulaski road earlier today due to flooding.

Only one video is shown on 2. It shows a number of cars in a state of standstill. At least 10 vehicles were stuck, according to the troopers.

It was a wet and unwelcoming day as buckets of rain fell on Chicagoland Sunday.

Bylenga replied, “I have no idea what I should do other than spend money.” It will be interesting to dig in our basement and see what they find.
