Baltimore City’s family calls for action following two tragedies in just two months.
Takiea’s home was destroyed by an unoccupied rowhome on November 1. In September, a city tree fell onto the home.
The family wants to see action taken by city officials.
I’m drowning in my own thoughts. It’s really a drain. When does it end?” Anderson asked.
11 News interviewed Anderson in September. It caused serious water damage when the tree broke off large pieces of her roof. Crews took several days to remove the tree from her house.
The tree landed on this bedroom. She said, “This is how the wall should look, but it’s not what it looks like now three months after the incident, because the hole is still there in the roof.” Not only didn’t the adjuster send out a cheque to repair my roof, but the city did nothing either.
Then came the next fire. But not in her house. Anderson claimed that the fire was caused by a rowhouse next door. The fire was put out by her husband using a fire-extinguisher, but damage had already been done.
My couches, for example, are damaged. The box I used to keep my wedding souvenirs is damaged. “It was made out of glass,” said she.
Anderson claims to have been on the back foot with her insurance adjuster.
The only thing that protects her house from further damage is a tarp.
Water damage was done to my cabinets and floors. Also, a bunch of wedding presents were damaged. She said that there was soot all the way up her steps.
Anderson expressed her disappointment at the lack of response by city officials.
What’s the next step? “I call, I leave emails. “Nothing, your things destroyed my house, peace, happiness, comfort, stability, and my ability to be happy. Not once did you consider it acceptable to contact me,” said the woman.
She is looking for someone in the city to take responsibility for the problems her family faces.
You didn’t say sorry to me when your stuff fell on my house. I apologize. I apologize. “Nothing,” Anderson replied.
Anderson has set up a GoFundMe page if you would like to contribute.
According to 11 News, the mayor’s office is investigating this situation.
