Weston-super-Mare: ‘Trail of chaos’ after mob chases drunken roofing worker

Jack Troth caused trouble in the bar and angry mobs chased him.

After the roofer began a disturbance in a Weston-super-Mare bar, a mob of angry people chased him down Weston-super-Mare’s streets.

He racially insulted a detention agent at a police station after assaulting 2 officers.

Jack Troth was ejected after he pushed and punched people at a sports bar in Weston-super-Mare.

Troth (26), of Albert Road Evesham, pleaded guilty to affray and two assaults against an emergency worker. He also admitted to harassing a racial nature. Michael Cullum sentenced him to prison for 93 weeks. Troth told him: “Your mayhem trail was complex and varied on several occasions. It didn’t end.”

Robert Yates of the Prosecutor’s Office said Troth punched one door staff when they were trying to handcuff Troth as he was leaving the bar.

Troth punched an elderly man randomly in the head and knocked him down. He also pushed people and shoved them, even a stranger holding chips.

Troth assaulted and spat on two police officers as they arrived. He was detained at Bridgwater’s police station.

Troth, a man with previous convictions of assaulting and racially aggravating harassment and assaulting an ambulance worker, had urinated beneath the cell door. When a prison officer was forced to address it, Yates claimed that he called his detention officer a “slut”.

Charlotte Evans’, the attorney of defendant Charlotte Evans declared at court that “this is an bizarre and irrational event which was fuelled with alcohol”.

She admitted to her client’s unprovoked use of violence following a hostile “friendly conversation” at the bar.

Troth confessed in court his actions were unnecessarily harsh. Troth said that after the incident he felt “cornered” by those who were following him.

Miss Evans: “He had seen the CCTV footage and was disgusted by his own conduct. One man on the street was attacked in the most severe way. The man was pursued by up to 20 other people. “He has very few recollections of what happened that night.”

“He does not hate those who are of a different race.” He can’t explain it. “He wanted to cause some discomfort,” said the lawyer in response to her client’s racist abuse directed at the detention officer.

Troth, a self-employed roofer who also does landscaping work, is a freelancer. The court also noted that he had parental duties and had given up alcohol completely.

He spent 10 months knowing it was all a waste. The mistake was major.
