Birmingham teenager has been charged for more than half a dozen crimes, after police said that he had crashed into Mountain Brook Jewelry Store during a weekend chase.
Police announced that Ricardo Antoine Adams Jr. (19) is facing charges of attempting to elude and criminal mischief in the first degree, receiving stolen property in the first degree, illegal breaking and entry into a vehicle and resisting arrest. He’s also charged with second-degree marijuana possession and minors possessing alcohol.
Adams, who is currently being detained in Jefferson County Jail for bond totaling $310,000.
About 2:40 am on Saturday, the accident occurred at Brombergs Mountain Brook Village.
A police officer conducting routine patrols in the 3600 Block of Montevallo Road around 2:35 am spotted a car traveling at high speed and recklessly.
Officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but driver lost control crossing Cahaba Road. He crashed into the shopfront.
The authorities said Adams fled to the shop and was arrested about 25 minutes after.
Police said that the Nissan Titan pickup Adams was driving is stolen.
Ricky Bromberg said, Saturday: “It’s like a bomb has gone off.” The fact that nobody was hurt is a good thing.
If the truck had been 10 feet more to the right, the glass front would have been shattered from the floor up.
Bromberg stated, “It would have been an absolute disaster.”
No merchandise has been lost, but there is substantial property damage.
He said, “It was a huge deal. But it could have turned out to be a catastrophe.”
The shop has been open since the incident.
According to jail records, Adams was arrested on December 18th for receiving stolen property and allowing certain people who were prohibited from possessing a gun during violent crimes.
