The headquarters have been targeted twice in less than one week. The vandalism was committed after a protest in the area, according to Ambassador Gali Dagan
Gali Dagan – the Israeli ambassador in Colombia – announced on his social media that Bogota’s diplomatic headquarters had been attacked in recent hours. The vandalism, according to reports occurred when a group arrived to protest recent violence in the Middle East.
The diplomat said, “This is the way 30 #Hamas supporters who ‘demonstrated’ yesterday at our diplomatic HQ left our embassy.”
The embassy was defaced on this occasion with anti-Zionism messages, an ideological current that is linked to religions, and especially Judaism. This political current has been criticized by the President of Republic, Gustavo Petro. One of the pictures shows a slogan that reads “Free, Dignified, and Sovereign Palestine” accompanied with symbols that are associated with socialism.
Witnesses to the protests claim that the group who reached the diplomatic HQ also started ranting against the current political situation. He also called Israel a fascist state, while scratching symbols of the Nazis on the floors and walls.
Gali Dagan’s complaint triggered a discussion among Internet users, who rejected the actions taken by the unidentified people at the facility. Some people even suggested that President Obama’s comments on the Middle East Crisis could have influenced the attackers.

They are referring to the statements made by President Petro within the past few hours. He argued that political rights have distorted the conflict of Israelis and Palestinians. “Positions taken by the extreme right lead people to confuse the struggle against Zionism and the Israeli colonial intent to subjugate Palestinians and their territory with antisemitism. The majority of Israelis want peace, negotiation and the recognition of Palestine. “Today, the extreme right controls Israel as well as Gaza.”
Some users sent insults to the Colombian president and apologized for their actions. “Mr. “Mr. Ambassador, this is very unfortunate. Keep in mind that Colombia’s government is led by a drug-terrorist who has encouraged his supporters to behave as they do. “However, Colombians in general condemn these actions and stand by the Israeli people,” states another comment.
The Israeli Embassy was vandalized by Protestants for the second time within three days. The diplomatic headquarters in Jerusalem was vandalized with messages and graffiti on October 8 expressing support for Palestine despite Hamas’ terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of more than 1500 Israelis.
The ambassador condemned vandalism at the time and criticised the insensitivity of many Colombians to the violent escalation that Israel was experiencing.
