As part of its fundraising efforts to help Amesbury Abbey Church repair its roof, the Friends of Amesbury Abbey Church are hosting a walk through the historic town.
The Amesbury Town Trail will take place on Sunday, June 11 at 2.30pm, starting from Wyndham Hall. Tickets are £5 for adults and free for children.
Amesbury Abbey Church’s Angela Bayliss said: “We haven’t held an event in this format for a number of years, but we try to arrange a variety of events suitable for different ages each year.”
Aside from the Town Trail, the group has also organized quizzes, sales, and Christmas draws to raise funds for the church. To raise funds for the church, Angela runs the Amesbury Community Shop, which sells postcards, cards, tea towels, guidebooks, notepads, pens and other products.
This May, the Builth Male Voice Choir from Builth Wells will return to Amesbury by invitation from the Friends of Amesbury Abbey Church.
Built in 979AD, the Abbey Church of St Mary and St Melor has been repairing its roof since 2020, when it received a £50,000 loan from the Diocese of Salisbury.
First, the nave was repaired, and now the tower’s lead is being replaced.
